Depot Modelling – Enhancement Optioneering for a depot in the North of England
The overview
The depot is operated by the client for rolling stock maintenance, servicing, repair, and cleaning of its regional fleets. The client wished to explore ways to improve the efficiency of operation at the depot by understanding the current depot flow and capacity constraints.
Our client's challenge
The depot was experiencing some movement flow challenges, leading to some Units being accepted late onto the depot. The client wanted to understand the direct cause of the flow issues, the other limiting factors masked by the perceived bottleneck, and improvement options relating to process or infrastructure changes to improve depot efficiency. In addition, the client wanted to explore the effect of future depot capacity requirements which placed more onerous demands on the depot capacity and flow.
- Flow and capacity based on existing timetable
- Flow and capacity for a future state with an increased quantity of arrivals
- Alternative depot flows to alleviate capacity pinch points
- Enhancement options
