Feasibility study for significant depot upgrades

IPEX worked in partnership with a maintenance depot design consultancy to support a depot upgrade feasibility study. The project involved developing and analysing options for a significant package of upgrades by a rolling stock manufacturer to an existing maintenance and stabling facility as part of a new fleet introduction . This included modernisation of the facility and improving capacity and depot flow to accommodate the new rolling stock.
IPEX provided its depot flow modelling expertise which demonstrated the likely pinch-points in the flow of units in the depot, while also demonstrating the original upgrade plan would create more capacity than required. The modelling demonstrated how the depot flow would work without the additional capacity which resulted in a much lower land-take for the depot upgrade and a significant reduction in groundworks being required.
